This theme, originally composed for the Inn, is also used in the final game for the main menu. When Clouds and Darkside are installed on a computer at the same time, the main menu for Clouds of Xeen is replaced with a World of Xeen menu, which instead plays "New Bright Town" from the Darkside of Xeen soundtrack. Therefore, many people are not as familiar with this beautiful piece. Version 1 is the original full length non-looping version of this track (lost for 25 years), while version 2 is the shorter looping version as appearing in the final game. Because version 1 is a 16 channel version, it is impossible to hear the full composition at once with a normal MT-32. Therefore, all channels have been recorded independently and then merged. Information is lacking, but it is likely that version 1 was never even sent to New World Computing. The original commission to Tim Tully reads: "Inn when you sign in, you save where you go training." & "Sign in, create, or delete new character, and add and remove from party. Need sign in music and inside (guy behind desk hands you pen.) Can use this for all the time, or have stuff for creating." From this note, and because the "tavern" are "inn" are designated as two completely different places on the original commission, and the fact that no equivalent theme was commissioned for Darkside, it seems clear that the original concept was to have separate buildings for the tavern and inn, as was done previously in "Isles of Terra". For version 2: The original version's (A) instrumentation may be restored by consulting the text in the original midi file, although the midi file itself and the game version (B) share a slightly different instrumentation: * Flute (A) to Piccolo 1 (B) * Oboe (A) to Bassoon (B) * Harp (A) to Guitar 1 (B) * * * * * This rendition of the soundtrack is a digital CD-DA bonus included on the PC-98 CD-ROM version of the game. It is merely a poorly made recording of the Roland MT-32 version from the final game (thus retaining the game's programming error of lowering every composition by 2 semitones). It is not to be confused with Takeshi Abo's OPN2 arrangments that are actually heard while playing the PC-98 version of the game.
