Samoa, American Samoa, Western Samoa, German Samoa, The Samoan Islands.... You've probably heard these terms used now again but can't quite figure out what the difference between them all is. Is America Samoa a country? Is it an overseas US territory? Or are Samoa and American Samoa the same? Well this video will clear things up.

The Difference Between Samoa, American Samoa and the Samoan Islands Explained
@YungV2064 years agoI’ve always dreamed of a United Samoa. No US, no Australia no NZ. Just the whole Samoa under one flag. Our people are actually ready for this. Samoa Mo Samoa 207

@SportZFan4L1fe4 years agoBoth SAMOA and (American) SAMOA are the SAME. Same Blood, Flesh, Bones. Same Culture, Traditions, and Customs. SAME Language. SAME Lineage and Origins. The Only difference are the Western Political Systems. 18

@
@sly334 years agoSamoa and American Samoa are the same people, same culture, same language, but just different political entities. Political affiliation is the only main difference between Samoa and American Samoa. Unfortunately, Samoans have not had any real control over the political identities that were thrust upon them from history. ...15

Examples: Sunday in American Samoa while it is Monday in Samoa or Friday in American Samoa while it is Saturday in Samoa. Another Examples: December 24(Christmas Eve) in American Samoa while it is December 25(Christmas Day) in Samoa or December 31(New Year's Eve) in American Samoa while it is January 1(New Year's Day) in Samoa. ...1

@anthony.3614last monthWhen Samoa switched to driving on the left in 2009, the cost of vehicles for locals dropped by one third. They no longer had to deal with car dealerships in Hawaii or mainland US, but with Australia and New Zealand and were able to import cheap used Japanese vehicles which most LHT Pacific Island nations do. ...

@
@douglasfenner93664 years agoActually, the official name of what used to be "Western Samoa" was changed by them to "The Independent State of Samoa." However, the UN and many people call it "Samoa." Further, geologically Swains is not a part of the Tokelau chain, which goes mostly east-west, and Swains is farther south, it is not part of any other chain. Originally it was occupied by Tokelauans, but Samoans subsequently took it from them. You also omit Rose Atoll, which is part of American Samoa. Geologically, however, it is not part of the Samoan volcanic hotspot chain, it is much older, as atolls are. ...11

@beautifulflower98794 years agoI have been to both Samoan islands and I must say that while American Samoa is the least developed of the islands. Upolu Samoa is the main island of Samoa and its a little more updated and upgraded than American Samoa. You will find people are different in many different ways. The Samoans in American Samoa rely heavily on welfare system while the Samoans from the other Samoa are independent and hard working people. You will also find more obese Samoans in American Samoa than Samoa. You will find that people in Samoa are more mixed with Samoan, English, German and Asian. In American Samoa you will find more full blooded Samoans. I enjoyed my visit and hopefully I can make it back soon. ...20

@76tony195 years agoJust like Puerto Rico, the U.S does nothing to keep American Samoa "modern" for lack of better words. It's infrastructure, technology and health system, ( or lack thereof) is a joke. The poverty rate is also ridiculous. I say let American Samoa go. Let them be part of there big brother Western Samoa who's government will strive for a better Samoa. ...31

@AHD21058 months agoAmerican Samoa has no independence and is unsupported at the same time. Has no energy independence and is reliant on American coal. Yuk America. Meanwhile, Western Samoa has hydroelectric and biomass and is almost energy independent. The difference between NZ leadership and US leadership. Also Samoa getsore support and more access to NZ than American Samoans get from US Samoa. Samoa also gets support from Australia. Feel sad for Hawaii too after the fires. $700 per family one off. Jobs gone, still have mortgage and no infruststructure. They will loose their homes, fathers or mothers will need to find work elsewhere. Or sell up. That's was the plan. And if it wasn't, it will be for other parts of Hawaii.😢 ...2
