Paolo Rossi, our Associate Director of Architecture explains the process of designing a new commercial tower in the Fahad Al Salem Street district of Kuwait City. The area, once a thriving part of the city centre has been the centre of previous efforts to revitalise urban life within the city after a series of master plans over the last 20 years. Al-Khaled Tower aims to provide a catalyst for the redevelopment of a new thriving commercial area of the city. The tower scales 26 storeys on a plot of 1,471sqm to create a new landmark on the city skyline. The design centres on the concept of creating new places and spaces for gathering, starting at the redesign of the ground floor podium level with transparent glazed spaces for gathering, retail and cafes and restaurants. Improvements in pedestrian areas and circulation characterise the design with a landscaped public realm at the back of the building as well as a unique sky-garden featured on the upper floors of the tower.
