SULFADOXINE -PYRIMETHAMINE [FANSIDAR] This is an antimalaria agent Pyrimethamine---Antiprotozoal Sulfadoxine--------Sulfonamide Uses: In HIV as Prophylaxis against PJP or PCP [may not be the first choice for this purpose]. Also for Short term prophylaxis against malaria Can also be used for the treatment of uncomplicated chloroquine resistant malaria. In the absence of other suitable drugs****, can be used for prophylaxis against PJP or PCP in HIV patients. For travelers to malaria endemic zones: 1st tab just 1 to 2 days before departure to the endemic zone Then,1 tab q1/52 while at your destination Continue with 1tab q1/52 for the next 6/52 upon arrival Uncomplicated malaria treatment: 3tabs[Sulfadoxine 1,500mg & Pyrimethamine 75mg] Taken once! You may take it twice a week.
